"A Catholic Parish Family"
What is the Sacrament of Confirmation?
The Sacrament of Confirmation is, with Baptism and Eucharist, one of the three sacraments of initiation. Confirmation completes the grace of baptism. Through the anointing with sacred chrism the baptized person is "enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit," and more than ever “obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed” (CCC 1285).
Grace and the Sacrament
The effect of the Sacrament of Confirmation is the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost. Accordingly, confirmation brings an increase and deepening of baptismal grace (CCC 1302-03).
